Meet Mrs. DeSoto
Welcome back to another great year at Desert Sage! I am looking forward to meeting my students and their families. We will learn a lot this year and have fun too!
This is my 16th year teaching. I began my teaching career in the Dysart district, teaching 5th grade. I moved to Bellair Elementary School in the Deer Valley Unitifed School District my second year. During that year I taught 4th grade. My next 13 years of teaching have been 3rd grade at Desert Sage Elementary School. Every year has been exciting and memorable, as I have been lucky to teach such wonderful students. Desert Sage is a great place where I truly enjoy being around enthusiastic students, staff, and parents.
My husband and I grew up in a small town in northeastern Colorado, but raised our two beautiful daughters, Kelly and Kim, in Peoria, Arizona. We welcomed Lily, our first grandchild, on July 1, 2008. She is the love of our life, and we are enjoying every minute we spend with her!
Here's some information on my educational background. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University West in May of 1997 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Education. I also have endorsements in Structured English Immersion k-12 and Early Childhood.
In my classroom I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration. I believe that great things can happen when we work together! Desert Sage is a place where I really feel like a part of a strong community and part of a winning team.
